Check out Helen's video above for news on permanent housing for five women (thank you, LiHi for making this possible).

TCI and Burgess Design are busy at work with our shelter plans. We hope to begin construction of the shelter at St. Luke's in Bellevue soon. If you'd like to sponsor a cubicle (there are still 16 of them left!), contact Kathy at The Sophia Way ( or 425-463-6285, ext. 111) and let her know. Each cubicle provides space for one woman.

Order a pizza with a side of helping homeless women!
You can chow down on the savory goodness of a California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) pizza and 20% of your check gets donated to Sophia Way. Couple of points to note:
  • Offer good on Dec 20, 21 and 22 only
  • You have to give them this coupon! (we put two coupons on the page so you could share the second one with a friend)
  • It's only good at the CPK in downtown Bellevue
Remember: the more you spend, the more we make, so order the large with extra pepperoni!

Auction Update: Raffle Tickets!
From now until our auction (Feb 16, 2012) you can buy a raffle ticket for a 7-day cruise for two on the Holland America Line. The drawing will take place at the auction but you do not need to be present to win.

The tickets, at $25 each, let the winner take a cruise to their choice of Alaska the Caribbean, Mexico or Canada/New England.

Take a chance and remember that the more tickets you buy, the more you help to end homelessness (and, of course, the better your odds of winning the cruise!). Only 500 tickets will be sold so your chances are good.

Contact Kathy at The Sophia Way ( or 425-463-6285, ext. 111) to purchase raffle tickets.

Holiday Appeal

This month, we celebrate the third anniversary of The Sophia Way. Together, we have been serving single, homeless women in our community, providing a life line of shelter, supportive services, and access to affordable housing.

As we celebrate all that has been achieved, there are still many women who are homeless. In order to bring women in from the cold, we need your continued support.

In 2012, we are looking forward to doubling the number of women we serve with our new shelter. We are very close to our capital campaign goal, to make this dream a reality.
  • A gift of $3000 sponsors a bedroom cubicle in the new shelter.
  • A gift of $1000 helps keep the shelter doors open.
  • A gift of any amount is greatly appreciated.
Your donation will make a big difference, and you can contribute right now on our website.

Thank you for your faith in us and the love you pour out to the women. We wish you many blessings this holiday season.

Homeless for the Holidays

Holidays bring stress, not relaxation to the homeless.

Most people in the United States will spend Thanksgiving day relaxing with friends and family,
eating, and watching football. For the women who sleep at The Sophia Way shelter, holidays are more stressful, not more relaxing. When the women leave the shelter in the morning at 7:00 am, they have nowhere to go because most places are closed on Thanksgiving.

The Day Center is closed. The library, which offers public restrooms, warmth, something to read and internet access is closed for the day. Stores are closed. Even the nearby large mall is closed for the day.

This Thanksgiving, Holy Family Catholic Church will open their doors during the day to serve many people a Thanksgiving Dinner.

Also, St. Thomas Episcopal Church will bring a wonderful meal to the shelter in the evening.

Please remember our clients during this holiday season.

December Holidays

Join our Holiday Elf, Sarice Tanvis, as she prepares for December’s holidays. Support-A-Woman, donate decorations, wrap gifts, help with meal deliveries and be a part of the peace, joy and love with our communal family! Sarice is planning for all traditions. First Presbyterian Church and the Newport Ward of the Church of Latter Day Saints are already creating some holiday magic.

If you can help, write to and help make a difference this holiday season!
